Thai hot and sour soup, or Tom Yum soup, is famous. It is made with aromatic spices and herbs such as lemongrass, onion, and galangal. It also contains proteins like shrimp, chicken, and pork.
What are the ingredients, and how can I make an easy tom yum soup?
Chicken Broth
Tom Yum Paste
Shrimp/Prawns or Chicken
Lemongrass (or use kaffir lime leaves)
Fresh Cilantro
Not – Lemongrass cannot be eaten, so take it out before you serve.
Where can I buy tom yum paste?
Tom yum paste can be found all over the globe. This paste is an excellent choice because it already has all the flavors and spices of tom yum soup, including Thai chili paste.
It can be purchased at Asian grocery stores. I have included a link to order online if you are still looking for it in your area.
Can the shrimp be replaced with chicken?
Any protein can be added to the dish, including chicken, pork, or tofu. It’s traditionally made with chicken or shrimp, but you can use any protein.

Do you have any tips for making tom yum soups?

Garnish with chopped green onions or fresh chopped cilantro.
The remaining food can be frozen in an airtight container for one serving and then reheated in the microwave.
Directions
1) Get all the ingredients.
2) Clean and peel the shrimp.
3) Chop cilantro and slice mushrooms.
4) Combine water, chicken broth, and chopped lemongrass in a large pot on the stovetop. Bring to a gentle boil on medium heat.
5) Once the water has boiled, add the sliced mushrooms to the pot and cook for 2-3 minutes.
6) Add in the shrimp. Cook for 30 to 45 seconds or until the shrimp turn pink. Note: If using chicken, cut into 1×1-inch cubes and cook for about 3-5 minutes.
7) Mix Tom Yum Paste in a strainer. Stir the soup using chopsticks/spoons, as shown below. If you don’t own a filter, a large spoon will work. Note The amount of each brand will vary, so taste it and adjust accordingly.
8) Add chopped cilantro to the soup and serve it hot.

Instructions
All the ingredients are needed.
Preparing shrimp involves deveining, peeling, and drying with a paper towel.
Chop cilantro and slice mushrooms. Cut lemongrass into sticks of 2 inches.
Place water, chicken broth, and chopped lemongrass in a large pot on the stovetop. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.
After boiling, add the sliced mushrooms to the pot and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
Add in the shrimp. Cook for 30 to 45 seconds or until shrimp turn pink. Note: If using chicken, cut it into 1×1-inch cubes and cook for 3-5 minutes.
Mix the Tom Yum Paste in a strainer. Add it to the soup using chopsticks/spoons, as shown below. The amount of each brand will vary, so make sure to taste it and adjust accordingly.
Sprinkle chopped cilantro on top and serve the soup hot.
